vacuum aspiration: Abortion method in which the cervix is dilated and the contents of the uterus are removed through a plastic tube (curette) connected to a vacuum pump.

vacuum curettage See vacuum aspiration. vagina: The tubular, muscular organ that forms the passageway between the uterus and the vulva.

vaginal aerosol foam: A spermicide-containing aerosol foam placed into the vagina prior to intercourse to prevent conception.

vaginal orgasm: According to Freudian theory, an orgasm attained exclusively through vaginal stimulation.

vaginismus: Involuntary spasms of the muscles around the lower third of the vagina when penetration of the penis is attempted.

vaginitis: Inflammation of the vagina.

value indicator: Any behavioral expression that has not yet developed into a true value.

values: Those expressions, relationships, or items to which we attach the greatest worth; guides that give direction to life.

varicocele: Swelling of the veins on the vas deferens.

vascular spaces: Cavities within erectile tissue that fill with blood during the erection process.

vas deferens: Small, muscular tube that carries sperm upward from each epididymis to the ejaculatory duct.

vasectomy: Surgical procedure for the sterilization of the male by cutting and tying each vas deferens.

vasocongestion: The engorgement of blood vessels in body tissues, especially the genitals and female breasts, during sexual arousal.

vasodilation: Dilation of blood vessels.

venereal: Relating to sexual intercourse.

vestibule: The area between the labia minora.

vicious circle: A chain of processes in which one condition leads to a second condition which, in turn, strengthens or reinforces the first condition.

voyeurism: Obtaining sexual gratification from secretly viewing unsuspecting people in the act of disrobing, when they are naked, or when they are engaging in sexual activity.

vulva: The external genitals of the female.
