The AC induction motor has three basic parts: the stator, which is the stationary part of the motor; the rotor, which is the rotating part of the motor; and the end plates, which house the bearings that allow the rotor to rotate freely. This section will provide information about each of these parts of an AC motor. Fig. 1 shows a cut-away diagram of a three-phase motor, and Fig. 2 shows an exploded, view picture of a three-phase motor. These figures will provide one with information about the location of the basic parts of a motor and how they work together.
