Diagrams that show the CSIR motor connected for both the forward and reverse operations are provided in Fig. 1a and Fig. 1b. From these diagrams notice that the end switch (centrifugal switch) and start capacitor are connected near the end where terminal 8 is located. When the motor is reversed, terminals 5 and 8 are switched.
When the motor is operating in the clockwise direction, T5 is connected to T3 and T8 is connected to T4. When the motor is connected for counterclockwise rotation, T8 is connected to T3, and T5 is connected with T4. This reverses the current flow in the start winding with respect to the current flow in the run winding, and the rotor will begin to spin in the opposite direction. Remember: Motor rotation is determined by looking at the motor shaft from the end opposite where the load is connected on the shaft. It's also important to remember that the start winding must be connected so that it only receives 115 volts. For this reason the start winding is always connected across the bottom part of run winding. |
