The amps rating is the amount of full-load current ( FLA) the motor should draw when it's under load. This rating will help the designer calculate the proper wire size, fuse size, and heater size in motor starters. The supply wiring for the motor circuit should always be larger than the amps rating of the motor. The NEC (National Electric Code) provides information to help one determine the exact fuse size and heat sizes for each motor application.
