Flexibility for Sport and Fitness

Flexibility for Sport and Fitness

Like Teaching Flexibility, this video covers flexibility assessment, basic principles of stretching, and the HK Stretch Routine-but the content is geared to the athlete or client rather than the fitness professional, trainer, or coach. Athletes and active people often ignore flexibility in their workouts. This new video shows you how to assess and increase your flexibility so you'll look, feel, and perform better, no matter what your sports and fitness goals. First the video explains the physiology of stretching. Then you'll learn 13 simple tests to check your own range of motion for all major joints. Finally, you'll learn the HK Stretch Routine for each major muscle group-14 stretches proven to increase and maintain maximum flexibility. Part I covers the benefits of stretching, including: increasing range of motion, improving physical performance through increased flexibility, balancing strength with flexibility, and reducing chance of injury. You'll also learn factors that affect flexibility, including: age, gender, joint laxity, muscle balance, type of sport or activity, and, most important, stretching. Part I also takes a fascinating look at the physiology of stretching. You'll learn what happens to your muscles and tissues when you stretch. And, you'll learn how to use this knowledge to develop your own flexibility program. In Part II you'll learn 13 tests for checking your range of motion for all major joints-neck, shoulders, back, hips, knee, and ankles. For the first time, YOU can assess your own flexibility! The video explains when and how to conduct each test and shows you the normal range of motion for each joint. These tips include: how to position yourself, how to adjust for your individual needs, how to pinpoint your areas of stiffness, and differences in range of motion between men and women. Part III reviews the principles of stretching before introducing you to the HK Stretch Routine-14 stretches proven to increase flexibility for each muscle group. These principles include: when and how often to stretch, how far to stretch, how many reps yield top results, how to individualize a stretching program, and what conditions prohibit a program of stretching. Next the video demonstrates the HK Stretch Routine. For each stretch you'll learn: its intended benefit, what the stretch does for each muscle group, proper breathing and mechanics, and how long to hold each position. Accompanying Flexibility for Sport and Fitness is a handy insert that illustrates the 13 range of motion tests and 14 flexibility exercises demonstrated in the video. Trainers and coaches can show the video to classes or teams in a group setting, and individuals can watch the video at home. Viewers will learn how to assess their own flexibility and they'll see demonstrations of all the stretches in the HK Stretch Routine.
