Baechle, EdD, CSCS,*D; NSCA-CPT,*D, is the executive director of the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) Certification Commission. He is the cofounder and past president of NSCA and its former director of education. In 1985 he was named the NSCAs Strength and Conditioning Professional of the Year. Baechle is also the chair of the exercise science and athletic training department at Creighton University and the former exercise leader of their phase III cardiac rehabilitation program. He has received numerous awards, including the Lifetime Achievement Award from the NSCA and the Excellence in Teaching Award from Creighton University. For 16 years, Baechle competed successfully in weightlifting and powerlifting, setting various Midwest records. For more than 20 years he coached collegiate powerlifting teams, strength-trained athletes, and taught weight training classes. Baechle was the force behind the creation of the CSCS and NSCA-CPT examinations that are offered through the NSCA Certification Commission. In addition to Fitness Weight Training, Baechle has authored 10 books that have been translated into 10 languages, including the popular Weight Training: Steps to Success. Roger Earle, MA, CSCS,*D; NSCA-CPT,*D, is the associate executive director and the director of exam development for the NSCA Certification Commission. He is responsible for reviewing and editing the CSCS and NSCA-CPT exams and writing study resources with Thomas Baechle, including the Essentials of Strength Training and Conditioning and NSCAs Essentials of Personal Training texts. In addition, Earle has been a personal fitness trainer for people of all ages and fitness levels for nearly 20 years.
