Dr. B. C. "Bill" Wolverton is a retired NASA Senior Research Scientist and President of Wolverton Environmental Services, Inc. He has a B.S. in chemistry, graduate studies in medical microbiology and marine biology and a Ph.D. in environmental engineering. His more that thirty years of government service, primarily with NASA, were spent conducting research toward the development of a closed ecological life support system for future space habitats. After retirement, he has continued at his own firm to research and implement natural processes using plants and their root-associated microbes to solve the earth's environmental polltion problems. He has received numerous awards and patents in this field. He is also the author of the highly acclaimed book entitled, "How To Grow Fresh Air," (Penguin, 1997). This book was originally released as "Eco-Friendly Houseplants" (Weidenfeld & Nicolson - London, 1996). John D. Wolverton (Dr. Wolverton's son) is an environmental scientist with more than ten years experience in research and design of natural processes to treat environmental pollution problems. He has written five technical papers on the use of plants for cleaning the environment; has been awarded two patents and has patents pending in this field.
